Bath Time Just Got A Whole Lot Easier

Most look at a bath toy and go “That’s cute” or “How fun!” Certainly, many bath toys are!

But ours has a story. And it isn’t so light—quite literally.

The reason Tubo came to be—and the reason Wawa Buddies exists at all—isn’t fun. It was the answer to a child’s pain.

My three-year-old daughter’s love for all things water, sun, and fun came to an abrupt halt during our first family vacation. We were playing at the beach when a rash developed quickly and painfully on her skin. That episode and many like it went on to consume much of her and our lives.

She had developed Solar Urticaria, a rare form of chronic hives in which the skin swells with exposure to natural sunlight or any artificial light-emitting ultraviolet radiation. Our daughter was allergic to the sun!

After that first episode, outdoor and water activities—even just the bath—became sources of deep-seated fear and anxiety for our daughter. No bath toy on the market broke through that wall and enticed her to hop in.

As a Clinical Psychologist, and most importantly, her mother, instincts and years of clinical experience kicked into gear and the idea for Tubo was born.

Tubo not only convinced our daughter that bathtime was alright, it brought back the spark of joy in play that she’d been so afraid to feel.

Years and doctors later, the Solar Urticaria is no more. Our now nine-year-old daughter thrives both in and out of the water.

It is with that spark and in that spirit that we bring you our first Wawa buddy today: Tubo The Octopus.
